Council Offers Junior Leader Training Course

Each Spring, the Sequoyah Council holds a Junior Leader Training course at Camp Davy Crockett.  The new training course is designed to be a supplement to the training that boy leaders receive from their Scoutmasters.  It's purpose is to provide a standardized curriculum in which boy leaders are trained in the responsibilities of their jobs and given basic leadership tools with which to accomplish them.

The objectives of the course are:

• To give each participant an understanding of Troop structure, the responsibilities of each of the leadership positions and   how they interrelate.
• To provide each participant with an understanding of the purpose and function of the Patrol Leaders Council.
• Through practical examples, to introduce the new boy leaders to managing conflict in the Patrol.
• To introduce each participant to four basic leadership skills.  They are:  Planning, Setting the Example, Communicating, Sharing Leadership.
• To show each participant how to use the material from Woods Wisdom and how it will assist him in his leadership position.
• To give each participant the opportunity to share ideas and experiences with other Scouts from other Troops.
• To have fun!

The cost for the course is ~$15.00 per person and must be paid at the time of registration.  The registration fee covers the cost of training materials, all meals, a patch, and insurance.
